Bukit Tinggi city is the capital city of Minangkabau land located on the middle west of Sumatra island. This country is facing the rough Indian ocean with beautiful panorama of the Merapi mountain, lake Maninjau and the scenery of rice field along the eyes can see. One of the most striking object people can see in West Sumatra is the house architecture with its beautiful and intricate decoration. This house is called Rumah Gadang. During the beginning of 20th century Bukit Tinggi is the biggest city in West Sumatra as the center of Dutch colonization and expansion of the colony. After the independence of Indonesia the center of the administration of West Sumatra was moved to the towon of Padang, located on the beach of West Sumatra. Padang town then developed much faster and become the capital city of West Sumatra. The most interesting object can be seen aroung the city of Bukit Tinggi is the Sihanok Canyon just west border of the city, and Japanese depense cave digged on the west border of the city on the east side of Sihanok canyon. The depense cave was digged to accommodate the regiment, deposit the provision, arms and various need of the fleet. Many Indonesian especially Javanese were transported to Bukit Tinggi and employed as voluntary workers to built the cave. Visitors can see the memorial of their names on the stone inscription in the cave.
